Santa Margherita Ligure is in the gulf of Tigullio, on the coast of Levante, in the italian region of Liguria, 30 km from Genoa, protected by the majestic promontory of Portofino.
It’s a fascinating village characterized by the pastel colours of the painted facades of the houses surrounded by a flourshing nature with maritime pines, olive trees and citrus groves.
Part of the area of Santa Margherita Ligure belongs to the Regional Natural Park of Portofino, meanwhile the sea segment in front of the promontory belongs to the protected area of Portofino, both very active on the environmental protection and valorisation of the territory.
In the minicipality of Santa Margherita Ligure there is a SIC (Site of Community importance), proposed by the Nature Liguria network 2000, for his specif natural and geologic concern. The site is between the sea bottom of Camogli, Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure, where there is a specific habitat made of pasture of Posidonia oceanica, coral formation and dark caves.
